Hi! I'm Norman! I'm from Cervignano del Friuli, in Friuli Venezia-Giulia, where Italian, Germanic, and Slavic cultures meet.

I am currently an adjunct professor of Italian at Salve Regina University, where I teach Italian language, literature, and culture classes. My research areas are Literary Journalism, Food Studies, and Digital Humanities, with an emphasis on the relationship between aesthetics and politics in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. I am particularly interested in issues regarding national, gender, and ethnic identities and their hybridization.

Before migrating to the US, I worked as a freelance journalist, covering local politics and culture. In 2007, I won the “Maria Grazia Cutuli International Journalism Award” from Corriere della Sera, and today I'm picking up where I left off and share my thoughts about food culture and politics on my blog, Pots&Pens.

I live with my wife, son, and a cat in Newport, Rhode Island.
